Sikh Shrines

Sikhism is one of the major religions of the country and this religion is more than three hundred years old. Sikhism was born in order to protect the Hindu faith and the religion is based on the ten founding pillars called the ten gurus. The first guru of Sikh religion was Guru Nanak Dev and he is the founder of Sikh faith. The famous temple of Harmandir sahib also called the Golden temple of Amritsar is the principal pilgrim center of the Sikh faith and is one of the most visited shrines of the Sikh religion. The gold plating was performed by maharaja Ranjit singh, the founder of the Sikh empire in India.

There is a great peace and tranquility in Harmandir Sahib Shrine and people of different religions have complete freedom to visit this shrine. The foundation stone of this shrine was laid by a Muslim saint. Another shrine of importance is the famous Patna Sahib. Guru Gobind Singh is said to have come here. There is a famous verse in Sikhism- Chadiya nale je baaj ladawan, taan Gobind Singh nam dharavan
