Rameshwaram is a place of religious importance in Tamilnadu. It is a bustling pilgrimage center in India and is among the holiest. The place is an important abode for both Vaishnavite and Shaivites. This place is also called Banaras of south India and has high spiritual relevance because of the presence of Jyotirlinga. This jyotirlinga is one among the twelve in India. This place is wonderful island in the shape of conch. One of the important temples here is the famous Ramanathaswamy temple. Dating back to 12th century Ad, the Setupathy kings fulfilled the construction.

A long corridor was added to the temple in the eighteenth century. This temple lies on the eastern side of the island and is famous for the sculpted pillars and the corridors. The entire temple complex is on the lush fifteen acre land. The number of pillars exceeds four thousand making it one of the marvels of temple architecture. Before entering the temple, the pilgrims take bath in the 22 teerath kundams. Being in Rameshwaram is the everlasting feeling of spiritual touch.
