India is also called the land of temples. In fact, India is the land of temples and the temples of the country date back to thousands of years. The temple wealth of the country was so rich that the invaders were truly jealous. They destroyed maximum temples here. The temples in India are divided into ancient, medieval and modern. The oldest temples in the country include the temple of Brihdeshwarar, the 1000 year old temple. This temple complex reflects the might of the Chola kings and their versatility in the temple architecture. One of the temples whose exact date of construction is bit confusing is the temple of Lord Venkateshwara in Tirupati.
There is a self manifested image of lord Venkateshwara in the temple and it is believed not to be constructed by the human hands. Similarly, there is a temple of Ayyappa in Shabarimalai Kerala located in the hills. Millions of devotees do a strong fasting and penance before entering the temple of Ayyappa. This temple is located in Kerala. |
